LE BAWSKI – tearout

Who are you?

I go by LE BAWSKI and I’m based out of Colorado.

How did you discover tearout?

I discovered Tearout back when Rusko was considered to be a Tearout DJ, which was around 2009. However the first actual first “what the fuck is this music” exposure to songs that would be more closely considered Tearout today would be finding stuff by Cookie Monsta, Genetix, Persist, Funtcase, Bratkilla, etc. around 2010.

What was your first release that made you think, “I’m onto something”?

The first song that I made that made me feel anything was SHUDDER, which is old and terrible, but it led me closer to the right direction than anything previous. Creativity and progress ebbs and flows, I released plenty of off brand shit since then.

What has been your biggest challenge as an artist?

The biggest challenges for me start with the solitude of music production and how hard it is to make friends within the scene, and of course the constant self doubt.

What’s one sound design trick you’re willing to share?

I am willing to share most all of my secrets, but to keep it short and sweet while leaving some mystery here — Newtone (FL studio) — Shoutout Kyro for this one, I use it a lot.

What makes a tearout track stand out from the thousands released every year?

The thing that makes a Tearout song stand out to me is usually within the mixing decisions. I hate sterile and clean mixdowns, I would rather listen to something that has character and warmth.

Do you change your sets depending on the audience?

I’ve only played live 3 times, all three times I tried to put together sets with a good bit of variety. However if I get booked again I will be playing 100% my original music regardless of crowd or lineup.

What’s your studio setup?

Pre Sonus monitors, Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones, scarlet interface, PC, keyboard and mouse.

What’s your biggest creative block, and how do you overcome it?

Motivation and the constant need to outdo myself. I overcome both by forcing myself to make simple song ideas that will inevitably become more and more complex as I make progress on the song.
